According to the most recent data collected by the Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF), the Excelsior is one of the city’s most under-served communities when it comes to families raising children. The DCYF analysis, based on a detailed (block by block) look at the 2000 census information has identified the Excelsior as the neighborhood in San Francisco with the most families – 8,656 families.

The neighborhood itself is 47% Chinese, 28% Latino, 12% African American, 6% Filipino and 7% other. The participants at our center reflect these numbers. Until the formation of Excelsior Family Connections, there were no other family resource centers in the community.
