According to the most recent data collected by the Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF), the Excelsior is one of the city’s most under-served communities when it comes to families raising children. The DCYF analysis, based on a detailed (block by block) look at the 2000 census information has identified the Excelsior as the neighborhood in San Francisco which has the most families in San Francisco – 8656 families.

The Excelsior is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city. Its three elementary schools have a vast percentage of their children that are English Language Learners. The neighborhood itself is 47% Chinese, 28% Latino, 12% African American, 6% Filipino and 7% other.

The target population of Excelsior Family Connections is low-income, 0-5 families in the neighborhood who need additional support to achieve family stability and economic independence.
