PROGRAMS: ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS TO OUR PROGRAMS

Family Movie Night
Movie night is a free family & community event held on a quarterly basis at our center and is funded by the Family Resource Center Initiative. Excelsior Family Connections (EFC) Movie Night offers families the ability to watch a projected film in a safe and welcoming center. Taking the entire family to the movies can be expensive, and the Excelsior neighborhood hasn’t had a movie theater in decades.

Our Movie Night allows families to bring their blankets and have a free entertaining night out that is child friendly and welcoming in their own neighborhood. EFC starts all movie nights with an emphasis on early literacy by reading books aloud that tie into the night’s feature film.

Healthy snacks such as fruits, vegetables and juice are also available at a minimal cost. EFC’s movie night is a community gathering that promotes family fun and entertainment as well as early literacy and healthy eating.

Field trips
Family Connections provides fieldtrips for families and children in CPDI and Next Steps. We have a wide variety of outings to places like Crissy Fields, SF Symphony, Habitot Children’s Museum in Berkeley, Golden Gate Park, and the San Francisco Zoo. Field trips typically fall on the last Friday of every month. Please contact the Family Service Coordinator, Jenny Yu, for information about upcoming field trips.

Community Outreach/Involvement
You can often find us at local community events and neighborhood fairs. We love to get involved and to know our community. Please feel free to stop by our table at local community events to learn more about our programs, or just to chat.

Financial Literacy Classes
Various local institutions provide Financial Literacy classes. These classes aim to increase families’ general knowledge of saving, investing, and managing their money.

EFC ensures that all classes are facilitated in the appropriate languages during the both Latino and Asian Support groups.

1-2-3 Magic
This evidence-based curriculum for effective parenting skills focuses on reducing children’s aggression and behavior problems. It is an 8-week program that meets once a week, to teach strength-based parenting and positive disciplining techniques. The class is for parents/caregivers with children between the ages of 2 to 12 years old. Two sessions are offered per year, one in Spanish and one in Cantonese.
